5 Things You Can Do Everyday To Stay Happy
“Money can’t buy happiness” is what we hear day in and day out. Folks, what we hear is true. Money, indeed, cannot buy happiness. You need to cultivate happiness and be happy from within. We caught up with Brian, Jeff and Mary-Ann, who seemed like a happy bunch with smiles all over their faces at the local coffee shop. We popped them the questions, “Are there any particular things that you can do to be happy?” Here’s what they had to say.
1. Break away from the routine
“Mary-Ann and I have been married for 9 years”, exclaimed Jeff, 36, a loving husband. “As a couple, we make sure that we break away from our daily routines every once in a while to take a fresh perspective to life. It can be as simple as missing lunch to watch a movie or sleeping in till noon on a day off”, said Jeff. We can understand Jeff’s point of view and agree with him that by not sticking to your routine and doing things that you may not normally do is a nice way to be happy.
2. Smile more often
“Yes, it is good to smile. Everyone knows that. But did you know how much of a difference a smile can make in your daily life?”, said Brian, an IT manager who usually works long hours. “Just because I smile, people are friendlier, I can get work done, and overall, I find that keeping a warm smile on my face is one of the things you can do to be happy”, he added. Are we all going to heed to Brian’s advice and smile more often in our quest to stay happy? Of course, we are.
3. Take pride in your work
A mundane working lifestyle can often result in unhappiness. Jeff, Mary-Ann and Brian, all take a lot of pride in what they do and believe that taking pride in one’s own work is one of the things you can do to be happy. “I am an accountant and sometimes my job involves number crunching day in and day out. I still take pride in my work and make sure that the numbers are right to the last cent”, said Mary-Ann with a beaming smile.
4. Stay fit and exercise daily
In our discussion on finding things that you can do to be happy, we all seemed to come to a common consensus that staying fit and healthy was the key to be happy. And the only way to do that is to exercise regularly. Do you have an exercise routine for yourself? If not, we suggest that you plan one today because looking at your fit and younger body in the mirror will definitely bring happiness from within. If you can’t find the time to hit the gym, even a quick 20 minute jogging around the park is great to start with.
5. Eat right
Studies have shown that our diet can often result in higher or lower levels of happiness. Ideally, people who have healthy diet are more likely to be happy than people who have unhealthy diet. We noticed that Jeff, Brian and Mary-Ann follow a healthy diet routine. “Yes, a healthy diet is one of the things you can do to be happy”, said Brian who often feels dull and unhappy when he gorges on junk food during busy days in the office. Are you eating well to be happy?
