6 Tips to Stop Judging Others Around you
If you are too quick to judge others, you may be hampering your chance to build good relationships with them in the future. Whether it is with your friends, your family, your co-workers or anyone else, refrain yourself from passing instant judgments on their personalities. Here is how you can stop judging others around you.
1. Step into the person’s shoes
You can stop yourself from making harsh judgments about other people if you step into their shoes. Assess their situation in life and try to think from their perspective. What would you have done if you were in there place? Ask yourself this question to understand the reason for a person’s behavior or decision. This will help you to peek into their minds and restrict yourself from forming baseless judgments.
2. Accept that everyone is a different individual
Do you expect everyone to be like you? Do you expect everyone to behave in a certain manner? If you do, you are making the mistake of being too judgmental. Remind yourself that everyone is different and everyone has a different personality. Learn to accept that different people have different thoughts, different preferences, different likes and different dislikes. This will make you more open towards accepting people and help you stop judging everyone immediately.
3. Don’t get personal
One of the reasons why people judge others is because they tend to get personal. Are you making the same mistake? Do you immediately develop a grudge against someone personally even if that person has made a decision professionally or has said something that did not really concern you? 4. Stop comparing yourself with others
Whenever you start comparing yourself with others, you invariably start judging them. Deal with this by reminding yourself not to compare anyone with you. Whether it is your friends, colleagues or random people you spot when you are outside, actively stop yourself from making any kind of comparison whatsoever.
5. Don’t assume that other people are judging you
Your habit of judging people can be a result of your thinking that other people are judging you too. Put an end to this tit for tat behavior by restricting yourself from assuming that other people are constantly judging you. Eliminating this thought will help you look at situations as they are, rather than complicating them with negative assumptions.
6. Stop looking at people as stereotypes
Do you immediately associate people with a typical stereotype as soon as you look at them? If you do, you are allowing yourself to judge them instantly. Stop doing this and stop assuming someone’s behavior and background by thinking about stereotypes.
