7 Easy Ways to Set Goals in Life
Setting goals in life can be a very daunting task. You may not know where to start and how to go about narrowing down to a goal. Do not fret! We have a list of ways in which you can set goals in life with ease.
1. Imagine yourself old
Imagine you are 70-75 years old. How would you like your life to be like at that time? At the end of your lifespan, what would make you die in peace? What kind of achievements would make you feel proud of yourself? As you try to find the answers to these questions, you will slowly realize what is it that you want in life and that you have several decades to make sure that your life turns out that way.
2. Do not be generic
When trying to set your goals, do not think of general wishes like “I want to be happy” or “I want to be successful”. Be more specific like “I want to be a successful businessman” or “I want to have a happy family.” The more specific and well-defined your goal is, the easier it will be for you to focus on it.
3. Write down your goals
This is extremely important. When you write what you want to achieve you are in a way charting a roadmap for it. It will strengthen your will and clear your vision. This will be a symbol that you are fully committed to achieving what you have set for yourself.
4. Have a role model
It is very essential to have someone whom you look up to. Think of someone who inspires you and whose life comes close to the life you want to live. This will give you that extra motivation that you might need if and when you hit a roadblock.
5. Use positive language
When writing down your goal, do not write about things that you do not want to have or how you do not want to go about achieving your goal. Make sure you use a positive phrasing when putting down a goal for yourself. Focus on what you do want and how you want to achieve it.
6. Do not be too hard on yourself
When trying to set life’s goals, be rational and practical. Do not aim for something that you know is beyond your capabilities. You need to be aware of your own limitations and think logically. On the other hand, do not be scared to reach your full potential. Just remember that you cannot be perfect in everything you do and try not to be too harsh on yourself.
7. Be flexible and adaptive
As you grow older, you may be faced with situations or experiences that may completely alter the goals that you had earlier set for yourself. You may have a revelation and realize that you do not really want what you thought you wanted 10 years ago. In times like these, do not be too rigid and be open to reviewing your goals. You have to be flexible and adaptive and mold yourself if the situation demands it.
