7 Tips on How to Control Your Temper
Hold your temper for a moment and avoid a hundred days of sorrow was once anonymously said. As a human, it is very important for you to control your anger. Remember – one who has the capability to control his/her anger can rule this world. Well, not literally, but you can at least rule your world. Being able to take control of one’s anger is certainly a good thing. So, here are some tips on how to control your temper.
1. Take deep breaths
A very effective way to control temper is by taking deep breaths. This has scientifically been proven as a successful method to reduce your anger.
2. Counting numbers
Another effective way to reduce your temper is by counting numbers in ascending as well as descending orders. Try counting from 1 to 10 and again from 10 to 1 slowly the next time you are angry.
3. Drink water
One of the best ways to control temper is to drink water, preferably cold, whenever you are angry. It reduces the tension that prevails within and also reduces the inner pressure.
4. Listen to your favorite song
Whenever you are angry, listen to a song you like to divert your mind. This can take your mind off the anger and help you relax.
5. Don’t shout
Well, if you get angry despite all the measures, the next step would be to let the anger out in a cordial manner. Do not shout at the person who is the cause of your bad temper. Instead, speak softly and calmly to him/her, which can help you to take control of both, the situation and the temper.
6. Smile
The best thing to do when you are in a situation where it appears as if your temper is taking control over you is to smile and smile from your heart. By doing this you are not only forgetting you are angry but also making sure that you are not letting your temper rule you. It might be hard at first, but practice and you’ll succeed.
7. Take a break
In the heat of the situation; you may tend to do stupid things as your temper is ruling you. So to avoid getting into an embarrassing situation give it a break and withdraw yourself from the place and calm down. When you are relaxed and back to your senses, you can come back to the situation and use the ‘Don’t shout’ method for addressing the concern.
