Does Positive Thinking Work?
I have heard people saying that ‘think positive and reap positive’. We can collect a huge load of self-help books which reveal the importance of positive thinking. Surprisingly enough many of these books prove to be the best sellers. But the question that follows is whether positive thinking really helps? Can we make our ‘virtual happiness’ our ‘real happiness’? Can we be even happy during our bad times? Let’s find out.
“Reality is the mirror of your thoughts. Choose well what you put in front of the mirror.”
I believe that our mind being the most powerful object is capable of molding our views, our attitude and ultimately our lives. Our life is a reflection of our thoughts. We do what we think and we think what we believe. Just to illustrate how positive thinking works, let’s look at the following cycle. Positive thinking–>positive attitude–>positive actions–>positive environment (as positive thinking is contagious)–>positive impact on mind–>(that again instills) positive thinking. In other words, positive thinking is something that reflects itself and forms a cycle.
When we think positively, our actions carry a distinct appeal and spread happiness in the environment, which in turn makes us feel good. Moreover, we cannot neglect the fact that positive thinking also affects our health and our appearance. Our thoughts have a profound impact on our body. Negative thinking reflects negative effect on our body, reduces bodily strength whereas positive thinking improves it and increases facial charm and aura. A person who has control on her/his thoughts can mend her/his life according to his/her self-will. Let not those harmful thoughts be even seldom visitors to your mind and don’t be a prisoner or a slave to them. All you need to do is to train your mind in picking the ‘good’ from among the mixture of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ thoughts. Bring the dictums mentioned below into practice and notice the overall difference in your life.
* Do not complicate things. Make them as simple as possible.
* Have clarity in your mind about your goals and aims.
* Understand the fact that past is gone, it can neither be mended nor revisited.
* Focus on your present.
* Make it as amiable as possible.
* Try to control your negative emotions like anger, distrust, and disdain.
Positive thinking can be really helpful in changing your life’s direction. You can be happy even during a bad phase of life, because happiness or worry is just a product of your mind. A positive person can create a positive world full of ecstasy not just for him/her but also for others around.
